Uganda Rugby team given Shs500,000 before Dubai 7s journey

An awe-struck General Secretary of National Council of sports Mr. Nicholas Muramagi, on Monday evening presented Uganda’s flag to the national sevens team at National Council of sports, Kampala, ahead of the team’s flight for the Sevens HSBC Series.

National Council of Sports gave hard cash reward of Sh500,000 to each player for winning the Rugby Africa Championship in Nairobi,Kenya.

The team left yesterday at 3:00pm for Dubai to take part in the HSBC series, where they will be unknown to many and carry the ‘under dog’ tag.

The Ugandan National Team

The team, consisting of mostly inexperienced players at the big stage, is ready to surprise the world by putting up good performances in the series.

Uganda will take on teams like South Africa, USA and Scotland as they venture into new territory. The team will leave for Dubai on November 28th and play the Dubai Sevens on the weekend of 2nd-3rd.

They will then connect to South Africa where they will take part in the Cape Town Sevens on the weekend of 10th-11th.

Rugby Cranes 7's Squad

The Uganda Gazelles have also set off this morning for the Dubai 7s. The Gazelles is a select women’s rugby team which incorporates players from all over Uganda and blends experienced players with young talented upcoming players.

The Gazelles are in group A and they will be out against Samurai, France, Tuks ladies and Tabusoro Angels.
